Mortgages are by far the most popular reason to visit the government-supported financial advice scheme’s comparison tables and the most often used calculators.

Mortgages are also the most searched topic on the website.

The Money Advice Service (MAS) has been much-maligned since its launch in April 2011, but consumers are making use of it in the way it was designed – to get free, impartial guidance on their finances.

Here we break down the topics consumers go to the MAS for, according to the service’s own figures.
