Q4 BTL remortgage lending up 42% year-on-year -CML
Buy-to-let remortgage lending increased by 42% in quarter four last year compared to 2012, the Council of Mortgage Lenders lending trends data revealed.
The total value of these loans was £3.2bn up 9% compared to the third quarter 2013 and up 53% compared to the fourth quarter of 2012.
For the year, buy-to-let remortgage lending showed the highest proportional buy-to-let growth.
Buy-to-let remortgages increased by 29% compared to 2012 bringing the total to 76,260 loans valued at £10.6bn, up 39% compared to 2012.
House purchases rose 26% compared to the fourth quarter of 2012 resulting in a total of 23,640 loans worth £2.7bn, up 34% compared to the fourth quarter last year.
Overall gross lending in Q4 rose 33% year-on-year with a total number of 46,700 loans being advanced bearing a total value of £6.1bn – a rise of 39% on Q4 2012.

December suffered its typical seasonal dip as gross buy-to-let advances, totalling 14,500 loans, fell by 10% compared to the previous month.
The value of loans suffered the same decline with a 10% decline in monthly lending to £1.9bn.
Following suit, remortgages in December decreased by 10% to 7,060 loans representing £1bn of lending.
And loans for house purchases followed the same 10% downward trend month-on-month with 7,280 loans being advanced in December worth £840m.
