Nationwide is rolling out a package of support for customers struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.

A dedicated phone line and in-branch experts are among the steps the lender is taking to help members navigate soaring costs.

Frontline staff will receive ‘cost of living training’ while specialists will be able to offer financial health checks.

Nationwide will launch the hotline next month and aims to answer all calls within 10 minutes.

The lender has encouraged customers who are struggling to make contact as early as possible.

In-branch experts will also proactively contact customers showing obvious signs of struggling with finances to offer support.

And in the autumn, Nationwide will offer regular virtual and in-branch events providing help with managing money.

Debbie Crosbie, chief executive of Nationwide Building Society, said: “We know the challenges that many of our members face from the cost-of-living crisis. We’re here to help and will make it as easy as possible for people to get the right support when they’re worried about their finances.

“That’s why we provide expert help from our branches, and now through the new hotline, as well as by video. We can do all of this because we are a mutual and our singular focus is our members, and we use all profit for their benefit.”
