Insurer National Friendly has refreshed its leadership team with the appointments of a chief marketing officer, deputy chief actuary and business development manager (BDM).

Paul Allen has been hired as chief marketing officer, bringing 25 years of experience in insurance marketing. He has worked across life and general insurance, including previously working at Zurich Insurance.

He will lead National Friendly’s marketing strategy.

Allen said: “Marketing is entering one of the most exciting periods of change I’ve seen in my career. Artificial intelligence (AI) is going to transform how we understand customers, develop propositions, create content and deliver experiences. I’m delighted to be joining National Friendly at an important point in its development.

“I look forward to combining innovation with the mutual’s strong sense of purpose to support its growth and help more people access the protection they need.”

Peter Stanley has joined the insurer as deputy chief actuary, reporting to chief actuary Julian Ellacott. He will oversee actuarial valuations, produce the own risk and solvency assessment (ORSA) and contribute to capital, investment and liquidity management.

Danny Turner has been appointed BDM and brings experience in BDM and strategic account roles with other providers including Vitality, Canada Life and The Exeter, with a track record of delivering commercial growth and building trusted adviser partnerships.

At National Friendly, Turner will build on the mutual’s reputation for making protection more accessible and engaging for advisers and their clients.

Graham Singleton, chief executive of National Friendly, said: “It’s testament to our ongoing growth and success across the business that we’re making today’s announcement to further strengthen our team. By investing in our leadership and specialist expertise, we are increasing our capacity to grow sustainably, support our partners and deliver for our members.

“We’re delighted to welcome Paul, Peter and Danny to the team. Each brings considerable experience and fresh perspectives to the mutual. And we look forward to working together to help more people access innovative protection solutions and, ultimately, bridge the protection gap.”
