Nationwide has made two technological updates to its mortgage application process in separate partnerships with Smartr365 and Equifax.

The mutual has enhanced its existing relationship with Smartr365 to improve its direct-to-lender application processing interface (API). Now, nearly all decision in principle (DIP) journeys can be facilitated by the system, and users are able to reprocess DIPs if needed, reserve mortgage products and submit a full mortgage application.

By enabling this on one platform, Smartr365 said this would remove unnecessary manual steps and reduce the time spend on lender portals.

DIPs can be reprocessed or resubmitted without duplicating data or switching between systems, while products can be reserved and funds locked in directly within Smartr365.

For the full mortgage application, brokers will be able to look up the panel solicitor and mortgage declaration, with the outcome returned into Smartr365.

Smartr365 said this would deliver faster case progression, reduced errors and an improved client experience with fewer follow-ups.

The technology provider said the update was the key stage in its direct-to-lender integration roadmap, with more improvements to follow.

Conor Murphy, CEO of Smartr365, said: “Expanding our integration with Nationwide to cover DIP journeys, product reservations and the full mortgage application represent another leap forward in automation.

“We are removing barriers, reducing steps, and giving brokers the ability to complete the whole journey – from enquiry through to reservation and full application – entirely within Smartr365. It is faster, smarter, and a significant step forward for the industry.”

Andy Tilsley, head of intermediary digital at Nationwide, added: “We continue to support intermediaries by making it easier and quicker for them to do business with us. Listening to broker feedback and working in partnership with Smartr365, we have responded by enhancing the digital experience, which in turn will save time and improve quality.

“While today’s announcement represents another significant milestone, there is more to come through our collaboration with Smartr365, as we look to further improve our digital offering.”

Equifax UK builds in-app credit score for Nationwide

Nationwide has also chosen Equifax UK to power an in-app credit score feature for its users.

The free feature will provide the mutual’s members with instant access to their credit score within the app, aiming to improve financial awareness.

It will also include educational topics to help users understand the impact of hard and soft credit searches, as well as the importance of overall credit health.

David Bernard, CEO of Equifax UK&I, said: “Nationwide Building Society is a true champion of credit education and this integration marks a significant leap forward in helping their six million app users better understand their financial health. By powering their app with these credit score insights, Equifax gives one of the UK’s largest banking providers another tool to deliver a more personalised experience and deeper financial insights to help more customers live their financial best.”

Suresh Viswanathan, group chief operating officer at Nationwide, said: “Supporting our members in feeling more financially confident is an important part of what we do at Nationwide. We’re pleased to be working with Equifax, whose credit insight capabilities offer clear explanations of the factors that can impact a credit score, which can help our customers improve their financial wellbeing and make more informed decisions about their money.”
