Karen Woodley has taken on the newly created role of head of healthcare development with insurer The Exeter, as it looks to strengthen the proposition.

Woodley has been with The Exeter since 2015, joining as head of healthcare distribution. She has more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare insurance market.

She also brings experience sitting on the Association of British Insurers (ABI) health committee and from a role as treasurer of the Association of Medical Insurers and Intermediaries (AMII).

As head of healthcare development at The Exeter, Woodley will identify emerging trends, innovation, market developments and future opportunities to help shape the next phase of its proposition.

The healthcare distribution team, previously led by Woodley, will be integrated into The Exeter’s wider distribution model under Jamie Page, head of distribution.

Steve Bryan, director of distribution and marketing at The Exeter, said: “Karen has been instrumental in the growth of our healthcare proposition, and this next chapter is a well-deserved recognition of the valuable contribution she continues to make at The Exeter.

“She combines deep sector expertise with a strong understanding of our business and the people we serve. I’m delighted to see her take on this broader remit and look forward to seeing the impact she will undoubtedly have in the role.”

Woodley added: “I’m honoured to take on this new position at such an important stage in the development of our healthcare offering. I’ve seen the market evolve significantly over the years, and I’m incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made in helping advisers and customers navigate those changes.

“There’s still a great deal of opportunity ahead, and I’m excited to explore what’s possible. In particular, I’m looking forward to finding new ways to help more people understand the role private healthcare can play in giving them greater choice, confidence and reassurance when they need it the most.”
