Tenet finance director resigns after 18 months
Graeham Sampson, the finance director at advisory group Tenet, has left the firm after just 18 months.

Sampson joined the group from pension provider Montpellier in April 2011. His successor is yet to be announced.

Tenet executive chairman Martin Greenwood said: “Graeham Sampson has decided to step down from his role as group finance director to pursue other career opportunities.

“During his time with Tenet, Graeham made a positive contribution to the group and we wish him every success in the future. A search for his successor is already underway.”

In July, the former chairman of Tenet hit out at the FSA’s decision to block Sampson from obtaining a significant influence function for over a year whilst at the firm.

Lord Hodgson told peers in a House of Lords debate the regulator had engaged in a “Kafkaesque” pursuit of Sampson.

His position at Montpellier – currently being pursued by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme for the recovery of payouts relating to Keydata claims – may have been a factor, he said.

“[The FSA] said it could not tell me as there was an investigation and it was confidential,” Lord Hodgson said. “I asked the FSA if it could tell him what he had done.

“It said it could not do that either as it was confidential. That was June or July 2011. He is still waiting to hear the outcome a year later.

“He cannot find out what he has been accused of and is in a Kafkaesque situation.”

“I can see how the regulator could argue that, if you have a person who has been involved in a firm which is under investigation, preventing him operating might be proportionate but to hold him in limbo for 13 months cannot be reasonable or fair. It offends the principles of natural justice.”
