The issues that got you hot under the collar
Each Friday, Mortgage Solutions takes a look back at the best reader comments on the website.

Many readers commented on the controversy surrounding the knighthood for former Financial Services Authority chief executive Hector Sants.

MPs: Sants knighthood reveals ‘disease’ in honours system

Fred Goodwin was, quite rightly, stripped of his knighthood because of the RBS fiasco. Yet Sants, who was responsible for regulating the banks at the time has now been honoured and has been given a top job by one of his banking friends. This makes a mockery of the honours system – it is nothing short of an establishment cover up and a reward for failure.

This is the icing on the cake – what more could this arrogant person do wrong and still get paid, let alone a knighthood?

I do not get so stressed any longer – I voted with my feet and sold up my IFA practice because of Hector and his merrymen – I am OK but 50% of my staff are no longer employed and hundreds of life-long clients are now looking for another IFA. The qualified-to-the-gills 23 year old who was allocated to my clients seems to know the book but not the reality

When will this industry and country come to realise the damage that has been done to the financial industry!

Do we realise that that we are paralysed by regulations? Will we wake up and look at the unnessary admin burden thrust upon us? The consumer detriment can be seen by people who deal with them, the advisers and brokers. This industry is on a slow grind and the man responsible gets a Knighthood? There is something wrong somewhere!

Equity Release Council backs winter fuel allowance proposals

It is all very well saying that it would save £500 million which is probably another figure pulled out of a hat but the means testing would bring in another group of civil servants to pay for including pensions and bonuses and it would probably be cheaper to pay everybody the fuel allowance. Capping the costs is a move in the right direction but most people would not reach £60,000 in any case.

Skipton BS halts new lending in Northern Ireland

I never used Skipton because they never brought anything to the party. Using M Brain they never showed up. When you come back, bring something we can use.
