A third of brokers say they are fearful of claims against them over mortgage mis-selling, according to the results of the latest Mortgage Solutions People’s Poll.

Legal expert Eddie Goldsmith of Goldsmith Williams had said that mortgage advisers should be prepared for a spate of mortgage mis-selling claims due to the increased publicity being created by claims management companies.

Our poll asked brokers if they were concerned about an influx of mis-selling claims against their business and 31% said they were worried about this possibility.

Over half of respondents (54%) said that they were would not be concerned until successful claims started to be made against mortgage advisers.

Just 15% said they were not concerned about potential mortgage mis-selling claims at all.

Goldsmith had said that brokers could be left out of pocket if claims companies continued to target the mortgage market.

“I fear these campaigns will result in a spate of unfounded claims for mortgage mis-selling,” he said.

“This risks the reputation of the claims industry as a whole and, more importantly, could raise borrowers’ expectations unrealistically and cost them money they can ill afford to pay.”
