Hector Sants resigns from Barclays with stress and exhaustion
After just 11 months in the role, Sir Hector Sants, the bank's head of compliance, government and regulatory relations has resigned.

Sants (pictured) took the decision to leave at the beginning of October after suffering from stress and fatigue.

In a statement, the bank said: Barclays has today announced changes to the senior management of the group as a result of the resignations of head of compliance and government and regulatory relations, Sir Hector Sants, and chief operations and technology officer, Shaygan Kheradpir.

Sants has been on sick leave since the beginning of October, suffering from stress and exhaustion. He has concluded that he will not be able to return to work in the near term. Consequently he has decided to resign from Barclays and not return from sick leave.

Kheradpir is leaving Barclays to take on a role as CEO for a company based in the United States.

Sants joined Barclays in January this year after his resignation from the FSA.

Sants was appointed FSA chief executive in July 2007. He joined the FSA from Credit Suisse in May 2004 as managing director of the wholesale and institutional markets at the FSA.

In 2010, Sants claimed he had been talked into staying on at the regulator to helm the transition to the new tripartite regime.
