Cirencester Friendly pays out £3.2m in sick pay claims

Cirencester Friendly paid out £3.2m in sick leave last year, covering 94% of claims made to the society.
Some 97.6% of applications were eligible for consideration, of which 725 claims were paid. The most common reason for making new claims was for accident or injury at 29%.
The main reasons for rejecting claims included that proof of earnings could not be supplied, that no loss of earnings occurred and due to non-disclosure.
Paul Hudson, chief executive of Cirencester Friendly, said: “Unfortunately the unfounded fear of claims being declined continues to impact the sale of income protection across the entire insurance industry.”
He said the society felt a transparent approach to the payment of claims is important both for consumer confidence and the negative perception that many intermediaries have of protection products.
