IFA network Intrinsic said reports that Sir Bob Geldof ranted at an audience of financial advisers at the firm’s annual conference were out of context, after the rockstar was invited on stage as a guest speaker.

A report on the Mirror online, told how Sir Bob was asked to leave the stage by host Gabby Logan after telling financial advisers the public hated them and did not trust them.

Intrinsic invited Sir Bob to talk to its members on themes including philanthropy, global politics and the role of business in society. A spokesman for Intrinsic said: “His speech covered the societal impact of the EU referendum vote and related themes, such as a loss of trust in experts. He himself commented how he has used the same adviser for over 30 years.”

Also invited to entertain Intrinsic’s members were comedian Kevin Bridges, Karren Brady, ventriloquist Nina Conti and ex-England rugby star Lawrence Dallaglio.

One adviser in attendance, Alan Lazenby, a financial planning consultant at Lazenby’s financial services, had reportedly posted on Facebook that he had left the conference after listening to Sir Bob Geldof talk nonsense about Brexit. Mortgage Solutions contacted Lazenby who said Intrinsic had now asked for all enquiries about the incident to be directed to the press office.

A spokesman for Intrinsic said: “Sir Bob was scheduled to speak until 5pm and having overrun was politely asked to conclude so the conference could end on time.”
