Society of Mortgage Professionals appoints new board in relaunch
The Society of Mortgage Professionals has appointed a board of cross-sector industry professionals as part of its relaunch aiming to represent the wider mortgage profession.

David Thomas (pictured), joint managing partner at Chadney Bulgin, has been appointed chair of the board.

The other board appointees are Liz Syms, chief executive of Connect for Intermediaries, Bob Hunt, chief executive at Paradigm Mortgage Services, Dean Mirfin, chief product officer at Key Group, Marie Grundy, sales director at West One Loans and Esther Dijkstra, director of strategic partnerships at Lloyds Banking Group.

Joining the board from the wider industry are Carlos Thibaut, chief executive at 360 Dot Net, Mark Hutchinson, marketing and societies director at the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and Personal Finance Society (PFS), as well as Matt Hall, strategy and operations manager at CII, and Keith Richards, chief executive at PFS.

The societys new website has gone live with good practice guides on second charge mortgages, bridging, protection and the Senior Managers & Certification Regime. Further good practice guides, on later life mortgages and technology, will be published early next year.

Webinars and podcasts will be produced by the society and educational events will be held across the country in spring 2020.

“With the increasing dynamism and complexity of the mortgage market, this is the perfect time to relaunch the Society of Mortgage Professionals,” said David Thomas, chairman at the Society of Mortgage Professionals.

“With almost 10,000 members, we have a real opportunity to effect positive change in the sector, encouraging the highest professional standards and playing a key role in maintaining public trust.

“For many, buying a property is the largest purchase they are likely to make in life, so it is absolutely crucial they receive the highest quality advice from skilled professionals.

“By promoting continuous learning and development, the Society of Mortgage Professionals aims to ensure its members deliver exactly that,” Thomas added.
