Carney’s forward guidance U-turn – weak or wise? Marketwatch

Forward guidance has proved to be a mistake. You can’t set your stall out and then back down from it weeks later and not look weak in my opinion.

I still believe he is the right man for the job, but he has lost a little credibility with this climbdown.

His real mistake was to link interest rates and unemployment in the first place. Whilst those of us in the industry understood that the 7% rate was never a trigger, it caused mass confusion (fuelled by the mainstream media in the main)…
