Support for the National Association of Mortgage Brokers and Advisers (NAMBA) is growing, ‘despite the doubt and cynicism from some quarters of the industry,’ according to Charles Gooding, chairman of its steering committee and managing director of One Mortgage Solution.
NAMBA has started to recruit members to its development group, set up three weeks ago to act as an interface with the grass roots of the mortgage advice market.
Seven intermediaries have offered their services so far ‘ to promote the concept of a professional representative body, ‘run by mortgage advisers for mortgage advisers’.
The NAMBA steering committee has expanded and will be joined by Mark Mountney, managing director of Premier Mortgage Management, based in Bournemouth, Dorset.
Gooding said: ‘It was never going to be easy to catch the attention of such a varied and over-stretched sector. Brokers and advisers have plenty on their plates at the moment.’
Looking ahead, Gooding added: ‘Our next step is to hold a development group meeting as soon as we can. We are still out there canvassing support and every week and we are more encouraged by the level of interest.
‘The sector agrees it is necessary to have independent representation ‘ it is simply a matter of self-interest and self-preservation in a highly competitive and regulated market. Once we have reached the stage where the sector recognises our commitment, the success of NAMBA will become inevitable. We still have some way to go, but we mean to get there,’ he continues.
