UKIP pledge to abolish Stamp Duty on new brownfield homes
The UK Independence Party (UKIP) has promised to remove Stamp Duty tax on the first £250,000 for new homes built on brownfield sites as part of its manifesto pledge.
Announcing the party’s manifesto in Thurrock, Essex, UKIP leader Nigel Farage said its plans to create a ‘brownfield revolution’ would help to build 1m new homes by 2020.
It will also issue brownfield bonds, provide decontamination assessment grants and remove VAT from brownfield conversion costs.
UKIP blasted Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat approaches to housing policy on Tuesday, accusing other parties of destroying the UK’s environment. It said it has completely ruled out building on the Green Belt.
Andrew Charalambous, the UKIP housing spokesman, said: “The Tory, Labour and Lib Dem answer is to let developers rip on our breathtaking countryside.
“So much so that the present coalition government, which touted itself as “the greenest government ever” has presided over the greatest destruction ever of our environment. While the Tories have received £3.3m in donations from big greenfield developers over the past three years.”
