The regulator reported that the clone firm scammers are using pretending to be from Our Mortgage Hub – part of the Mortgage Advice Bureau, which is authorised by the FCA –  when cold calling people.

Clone firms may use the name of the genuine firm as well as the firm reference number and other details, the regulator warned.

The regulator advised consumers to deal only with financial firms which have been authorised and to check the financial services register to make sure they are.

Further, the FCA urged anyone to contact them when they suspect an authorised firm has been cloned or scammers are fraudulently using a firm’s name or other details.
