He will work alongside chief operating officer Rob Howse during a transition period before Howse leaves the society at the end of the year.
Croke brings more than 30 years of experience in financial services, with a track record of delivering major technology transformation programmes.
He joins from Gartner, where he most recently served as vice president and executive partner of the research board.
Before that, he helped develop a global banking platform at HSBC and led the modernisation of RBS’ core banking systems.
Leeds Building Society said his combination of strategic leadership and hands-on transformation experience would support its technology modernisation programme and help deliver secure, reliable and straightforward services for members and colleagues.
