The Cheshire Building Society has been criticised on a customer’s website which claims it failed to offer a borrower payment protection insurance (PPI).

The website claimed the borrower found he did not have PPI when he was made redundant from work and when he complained to the building society he was told he had been offered PPI, discussed it and refused it, which he denies.

A spokesman for the Cheshire said, while it would not discuss the details of an individual’s dealings with the lender, it had a member relations team which was committed to fully investigating the circumstances surrounding any complaint or dispute.

He said: “Where a customer is not satisfied with the outcome of such an investigation they have the opportunity to take their complaint to a number of independent bodies, including the Financial Ombudsman Service.”
