You can almost hear the hum of vuvuzelas* drifting up from the tip of Africa. There’s just one day to go until the start of the World Cup and the buzz of excitement is reaching fever pitch. Well, perhaps not quite, but there is still plenty to fascinate as we go into the first tournament to be held on the continent.

Will the Bafana Bafana [South Africa’s team that is, ed] unite a nation? Will Spain defy the pundits and fail on a world stage again? Is Fabio Capello the next Alf Ramsay, or just a very angry man? And does Maradona’s harebrained scheme to play four centre backs make him a madman or a genius?

But perhaps the most pressing question is, what are the 20 swear words that have been supplied to referee Carlos Simon in a profanity list to help him keep proceedings clean when England play the USA on Saturday? I can only think of 14.

Don’t forget to pick your Fantasy World Cup team ahead of tomorrow’s opening match. You’ll be disappointed if you miss it. You may even discover the other six words on that list.
