A group of Conservative MPs are set to publicly warn that a radical change of economic strategy is essential to revive the economy, the Telegraph reports.

The Free Enterprise group of Conservative MPs will appear at an event today, alongside the Institute of Economic Affairs, to outline plans for cuts in business taxes.

Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Free Enterprise group supporter Priti Patel said the Chancellor should “wake up” to the damage high taxes are causing.

She added the government should reduce “punishing” tax policies such as passenger duty. Other MPs want a new tax break for married couples to be introduced.

On Tuesday an independent review in the country’s business culture – published by Labour – will also recommend a sharp reduction in capital gains tax for long-term investors.
