Adviser hotspots: The best (and worst) places to be a financial adviser
Truro is the best place to be a financial adviser in the UK based on the level of interest in advice among the population, according to research.

The Cornish city had the highest amount of traffic through unbiased.co.uk’s ‘find an adviser’ tool relative to its population, with almost 10% of people searching for advice in 2014.

It topped the leader board for the second consecutive year, followed by fellow southern cities Stevenage and Salisbury.

Scotland also featured more strongly in advice searches through the site, particularly the areas Kilmarnock and Motherwell.

At the other end of the scale were Liverpool, Sunderland and Durham, which made the least number of enquiries for advice relative to the number of people aged 16 and over who live there.

In Liverpool 0.37% of people were looking for advice through unbiased.co.uk in the period.

The adviser directory dealt with more than 500,000 searches for a professional adviser this year.

The most popular areas for advice sought were pensions, investments and mortgages, in particular annuities, pension reviews and transfers, re-mortgaging, ISAs and investing for income.

Chief executive Karen Barrett (pictured) said: “Our financial advice hotspots map reveals which areas in the UK have the highest percentage of people searching for a financial adviser in the UK – and Truro tops the list for the second year in a row, showing that people in the South West continue to be more engaged with their finances than the rest of the UK.”
