Newcastle BS appoints Carruthers head of mortgage distribution
Newcastle Building Society has appointed Steve Carruthers as head of mortgage distribution in a bid to strengthen the society’s mortgage offering for brokers.

Carruthers has nearly 30 years’ experience in the financial services sector and joins Newcastle from Aldermore, where he was head of sales. He will be responsible for the newly created mortgage distribution function and existing business development managers that were appointed this year.

Newcastle Building Society has had a busy year, reporting gross profits of £1.5m in the year to the end of June 2015, nearly double the £0.8m it reported for the same period last year. Its gross mortgage lending for 2014 was £350m.

The society has also launched a buy-to-let mortgage range and an online application system.

It has also recently enhanced its online systems, aiming to allow a more streamline mortgage application for brokers by offering document upload and the ability to get case updates via email and manage applications online.

Steve Carruthers (pictured) said: “I’m delighted to join Newcastle Building Society at an exciting time for the company following a number of positive developments to its broker offering this year.

“The ambition it has to develop its intermediary proposition was a key aspect for me joining and I look forward to working with the team to support the implementation of this. 2016 is sure to be a busy year for all of us.”

Steve Urwin, managing direct of sales and marketing, said the move has been designed to allow Newcastle to provide a greater focus on developing its mortgage proposition.
