Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) has paid tribute to Jon Udall, a regional manager in the lender’s branch network, who died yesterday from injuries sustained in a helicopter crash in the Grand Canyon.

Jon had worked for Yorkshire Building Society for almost 10 years and risen to become a regional manager in the south region.

He was on honeymoon with his wife Ellie, a development manager in the YBS agency network, who remains in a critical condition.

Mike Regnier, Yorkshire Building Society chief executive, said: “Jon was a well-known and well-loved colleague and we’re all deeply shocked and saddened by his death.”

He added:  “He was hugely passionate about his job and making sure customers got the best service possible.

“We are in touch with his and Ellie’s families and send them our deepest condolences.

“We hope to hear positive news about Ellie soon.”

YBS said it is offering colleagues support.

More than £22,000 has been raised for Jon and Ellie after the crash earlier this month through a JustGiving webpage.
