Central and Mercantile Trust and Gatehouse Bank hire BDMs ‒ roundup
Central and Mercantile Trust, and Gatehouse Bank have both added business development managers (BDM) to their teams.

Central and Mercantile Trust has appointed Harriet Merriman as BDM for the southern region, while Emma Kelman takes on the job for Gatehouse in South West London.

Merriman has over 13 years’ experience in the financial services sector. She spent the first three years of her career at Loans Warehouse, working in various roles within new business, unsecured sales, secured sales and underwriting. During this time she also earned her CeMAP. She then took the role of new business sales adviser at Loans Engine in 2018 but swiftly joined Central and Mercantile Trust that same year.

During her time at the trust she has worked in sales and underwriting, and most recently on the mortgage desk.

In the new role, Merriman will cover the southern region, reporting to Maeve Ward, director of commercial operations.

Merriman said: “I am very pleased to have been appointed as a BDM. I’ve really enjoyed my time so far at the trust and can’t wait to get out into the field.

“Brokers are key to our success and I will be ensuring that all intermediaries in the South of England get to know how our products and common sense approach to underwriting can meet the needs of their under-served clients.”

Ward added: “Before entering the world of financial services, Harriet planned to become a paramedic which, as I got to know her, came as no surprise to me at all and she would have been very successful at it had she have continued down that path.

“To be a paramedic requires long hours, dedication, good listening skills, being able to think on your feet and react quickly – characteristics that are not too dissimilar to that of a business development manager, which is why she was recognised as a natural fit for this role.

“Progressing into the role of a BDM was a natural step in Harriet’s career progression. She is a ball of energy, full of passion and drive for making a difference and will no doubt be embraced by the market.”

Gatehouse Bank hires South West London BDM

Gatehouse has appointed Emma Kelman as BDM for South West London.

Kelman has 30 years’ experience in the mortgage industry, and joins the bank from Octane Capital, where she also worked as a BDM. She previously spent 20 years in the same role at Kensington Mortgages and Northview Group.

“This is an exciting time to join the bank. It is constantly improving its range of home finance products and I look forward to growing the network of brokers we work with.” she said.

Kelman will manage existing and new broker relationships in South West London, and will report to Lottie Clayton, head of intermediary sales.

Clayton said: “Emma has extensive experience in the mortgage industry and will be a real asset to our growing team. We are always looking to increase the number of brokers we work with, and Emma will play a key role in managing these relationships and forging new ones.”
