Christopher White (pictured) has been appointed chief financial officer (CFO) at Beverley Building Society to replace Janet Bedford who was promoted to chief executive officer (CEO) in April.

Bedford succeeds Karl Elliott who retired after five years in the role.

White was formerly CFO at Darlington Building Society, having joined the mutual in 2012 as general manager.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and also worked at PwC for seven years providing assurance services to building societies.

“Proven track record”

Bedford said the mutual’s board was “delighted to appoint such an accomplished financial services professional with significant executive and board-level experience in the building society sector”.

She added: “Christopher clearly has a proven track record in helping to drive growth across commercial and operational areas, through the delivery of a proactive financial strategy and we are confident that he will play a significant part in strengthening our financial position within our East Riding heartland and nationally.

“The Beverley is a traditional building society that provides an outstanding personal service and a flexible, common-sense approach to lending, together with great value savings products and this appointment is another key step in our strategic plan to build on these impressive foundations.”

White said: “I am really excited to be joining the Beverley and am looking forward to leading the society’s finance department. A really important part of the Society’s next phase of development is growing its membership and mortgage book and I look forward to helping its team achieve this in line with its mutual principles and founding purpose of ‘Building Better Futures’.”
