Hampshire Trust Bank (HTB) has expanded its broker support function with the appointment of Mia House as head of internal business development managers (BDMs).

The lender said looks to create a more direct route for brokers seeking guidance on its specialist mortgage and bridging propositions.

House returns to HTB after more than seven years with the lender across its specialist mortgages and bridging finance divisions, most recently serving as senior business development director.

Since leaving the bank, she has held senior positions including sales director at Century Capital and director of short-term finance origination at Maslow Capital.

The internal BDM team will work alongside HTB’s regional BDMs, helping advisers understand the bank’s proposition, discuss potential cases and establish relationships with the lender.

House will report to Andrea Glasgow, sales director for specialist mortgages and bridging finance. Alex Klimcke, internal BDM, will report to House, with plans in place to further grow the function.

HTB said the enhanced structure would increase its capacity to support brokers who may not previously have had a regular point of contact within the bank.

Commenting on the appointment, Glasgow said House’s return was “a real positive” for the business.

“She knows the business and the broker market extremely well, but she is also returning with broader experience and a fresh perspective,” Glasgow said.

She added that the expansion was designed to make it easier for brokers to engage with HTB and gain a better understanding of where the lender could support them.

Glasgow continued: “We already have a strong regional sales team out in the market. This is about making it easier for brokers who may not know HTB as well to have a direct conversation with us, understand where we can help and start building that relationship.”

House (pictured) said she was looking forward to helping develop the function and building relationships with brokers who may not yet have experience of working with HTB.

She said: “Coming back to HTB feels like the right move at the right time.

“What excites me about this role is the opportunity to build something and work with brokers who may be less familiar with HTB. I want us to understand their businesses and the cases they are seeing, make those early conversations genuinely useful and take things forward from there.”

Alex Upton, managing director of specialist mortgages and bridging finance at HTB, said broker relationships remained central to the lender’s approach in an increasingly crowded specialist lending market.

Upton said: “There is no shortage of choice in the specialist market, but choice does not necessarily make a broker’s job easier.

“Developing the internal BDM function gives more brokers a direct route into HTB, alongside the relationships already being supported by our regional team.”

Upton added that House’s experience, both within HTB and elsewhere in the specialist finance market, would be valuable as the lender continues to develop the function.
