Market Harborough Building Society (MHBS) has appointed Iain Smith (pictured) as its head of distribution.

In his role at MHBS, Smith will oversee “delivering continued growth as the society drives towards becoming the UK’s specialist lender of choice”.

He will also offer “strategic leadership” to the mortgage sales teams and work in partnership with brokers to deliver a best-in-class service.

Smith has worked at SBI UK for around two years as its intermediary head, and before that, was at Bank of Ireland for around eight years.

He joined Bank of Ireland initially as head of corporate accounts in 2014 before taking on the role of head of intermediaries in 2019 until 2022.

Prior to that, Smith worked at Corelogic Solutions for just under a year as business development director.

Smith previously worked at Accord Mortgages for nine years, initially as regional sales manager for two years and then as sales director for around seven years.

SBI UK launched in 2012 into the UK market and offers buy-to-let (BTL) and commercial mortgages.

The company currently has six business development managers (BDMs), which includes one for North, London/West, London/South, North London/Essex/East Anglia, Midlands/Yorkshire and telephone BDM.

Iain Kirkpatrick, MHBS’ chief executive, said: “Iain has a wealth of experience and I’m excited about the new thinking he’ll bring to the society. We genuinely care about offering outstanding service and making decisions that are right for our partners – as demonstrated by our minimum 24-hour product withdrawal guarantee.

“Part of Iain’s role is to deliver broker-focused initiatives and help even more clients secure the right mortgage.”

Smith added: “MHBS is an ambitious and forward-thinking lender with a passionate commitment to mutuality. I know what a valuable role building societies play when it comes to putting customers first, and through its Thrive Agenda, Market Harborough is leading the way with a single-minded focus on supporting its brokers, members, colleagues and the community.

“I’m joining a talented, driven team and can’t wait to help them build on their current success. I look forward to further growing Market Harborough’s mortgage business by adding my experience of what brokers and clients want from a specialist lender and making it even easier for them to work with us.”
