Mahesh Aditya has been appointed as the chief executive of Santander UK Group Holdings and Santander UK.

He will take up the role on 1 March, succeeding Mike Regnier, who announced his departure after four years with the business last year.

Aditya joins from Banco Santander, where he has been group chief risk officer since 2023. Before this, he spent two years at Santander US as its chief risk officer, before becoming CEO of Santander Consumer USA from 2019 to 2023.

He has more than 30 years of experience in financial services, having held positions across a range of firms, including Citi, JPMorgan Chase and Co and Capital One.

Aditya was appointed to the Santander UK boards, Santander UK Group Holdings and Santander UK, in October last year.

In his new role, he will oversee Santander’s acquisition of TSB, which was announced in July last year. The group acquired TSB from Banco Sabadell in a transaction valued at around £2.9m.

Ana Botín, president of Banco Santander, said: “Mahesh is a highly respected leader across the group and a prime example of Santander’s culture, demonstrating a strong drive for continuous improvement and consistently delivering on promises to the team, clients, shareholders, and society year after year.

“These changes further demonstrate the high calibre of our management team and the strength of our succession plans, which are fundamental to our continued long-term value creation.”
