Together poaches Alex Garland for corporate team in the North
Together has poached Alex Garland from Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banking Group to become its corporate relationship director for the North of England.

The appointment sees Garland return to the lender where he began his career as a commercial underwriter in 2002.

Garland’s brief is to nurture existing relationships and to broaden the network of corporate clients and advisers in Manchester, where he lives, and across Leeds and the North East.

“It’s great to be back. I’ve been working in mainstream banking for a long time and now I’m ready for a new challenge,” said Garland (pictured).

“Having started out in specialist lending I have come full circle. I’ve been keeping my eye on Together’s amazing growth and ambitions and it’s fantastic to be part of the team again,” he added.

Together’s corporate relationship team serves large businesses and individual investors with financing of more than £1m.

Garland formerly served as senior director for CYBG’s national real estate finance team and before that he was senior manager for Anglo Irish Bank.

His career has covered commercial and corporate real estate lending on deals from £25,000 to £200m.

Andrew Charnley, who was lured to Together as head of corporate relationships in November 2018, joining from Lloyds, will become Garland’s new boss.

“We’re delighted to welcome Alex as the latest recruit to our highly successful and growing business where he will again team up with commercial chief executive Marc Goldberg,” said Charnley.

Together’s mortgage loan book hit £3.47bn in May 2019, a rise of 25 per cent compared to £2.78bn in 2018.
