AI, technology and the future of mortgage advice: What's next for brokers?

The mortgage industry continues to evolve, with advances in technology, changing customer expectations and increasingly sophisticated digital tools creating both challenges and opportunities for brokers.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming an increasingly prominent part of that conversation. From automating administrative tasks and improving customer communications to supporting mortgage sourcing and affordability assessments, technology has the potential to reshape how brokers operate and interact with their clients.

However, adopting new technology is not simply about introducing more digital tools. For brokers, the challenge is understanding where technology can add genuine value, whether through improving operational efficiency, delivering a more connected customer experience or creating additional opportunities for business growth.

At the same time, maintaining strong customer relationships remains fundamental to the advice process. As digital services make it easier for borrowers to manage aspects of their mortgage journey independently, brokers must consider how they can continue demonstrating the value of professional advice beyond the initial transaction.

The growing role of AI also raises important questions around data security, accuracy and regulatory oversight. While technology can help streamline processes and support decision-making, human judgement and the ability to understand individual customer circumstances remain essential.

In the sixth and final episode of Newcastle Building Society’s Powered by Partnership podcast, Francesco Di Pietro, Head of Intermediary Mortgages at Newcastle Building Society, is joined by Neil Wyatt, Chief Commercial Officer at Mortgage Brain, and Phil Daffern, Head of Lender Relationships at SimplyBiz Mortgages, to explore what the future could hold for the mortgage industry.

Together, they discuss how AI and digital technology could transform the mortgage advice process, the importance of building stronger and longer-lasting customer relationships, and how brokers can adapt their businesses to changing borrower needs. They also explore the role of lender partnerships, connected technology and diversification in helping advisers identify new opportunities and prepare for the future.
