Over half of brokers said they would not want to advance their mortgage qualifications beyond the CeMap certificate.

However, 33% of brokers said that an advanced mortgage adviser qualification would help boost their CV, while 15% said that they were unsure and did not know what the options are.

Gemma Harle, managing director of Tenet Lime said that adviser qualifications would be a positive move forward in the industry and accepted by the majority of brokers.

She said: “I think that brokers would welcome it as long as the standard of the qualification is right. On the other hand, there will be some brokers who will question what it all means to consumers.”

Gemma added that a vast majority of brokers would work towards advanced adviser qualifications in line with the Financial Services Authority’s (FSA) drive to boost standards in the industry.

“If the FSA’s Mortgage Market Review (MMR) proposals go ahead, then I expect the majority of brokers to get those qualifications because they respect the reasoning behind it.”

“In addition, there are always new entrants joining the market, so brokers will want to do all they can to stand out form the crowd by boosting their knowledge and helping to improve their customer service.”
