NatWest has created a new commercial arm designed to complement the broker services offered by its residential mortgage development managers.

The lender is currently setting up a team of 100 dedicated commercial managers with expertise in the small business sector, and now has 84 in place.

Until now its 120 residential mortgage development managers were unable to offer advice on commercial loans other than to refer brokers to one of its 1,400 branch specialists, who mainly look after existing commercial borrowers. Charles Haresnape, head of mortgage sales at Natwest, said: ‘If brokers have got clients looking for a residential mortgage then they can also help them look for business or commercial mortgages too.’
