We ask BDMs up and down the country for their answers to the following 10 questions. In this edition Michelle Stevens, Cambridge Building Society’s business development manager, is under the microscope.
How many brokers do you see in a week?
It can vary considerably due to the large geographical area I cover.
I look after intermediaries from Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Norfolk. On average, I like to see 15+ brokers a week.
What issues come up time and time again?
We do have a loyal following. Once people discover us and use us they grow to love us. Therefore, issues tend to be few and far between.
We always do our best to iron out any ‘issues’ that do arise and because we are a relatively small team we can do this quicker than most.
Favourite part of your job?
I love representing an organisation that truly does care about its members.
Nothing feels better than helping my intermediary partners succeed in achieving their clients’ mortgage aspirations – whether it be remortgaging their home to make some improvements, or purchasing their ‘forever’ home.
Biggest challenge?
Being everywhere at once!
Strangest question you’ve ever been asked?
How many BILLION we lend as a society each month.
What do you wish brokers understood about your job?
I will always endeavour to do all I can to assist them, but, I simply cannot be everywhere at once. I look after brokers from five different counties, so sometimes I’m not available immediately to take their call.
I will ALWAYS call them back and if it does take a little while, maybe because I am in a meeting – fear not, I will call back!
Last film you saw at the cinema?
The Railway Man.
Least favourite sport?
Cricket – but only because I don’t really understand it.
Current mobile phone?
Samsung Galaxy Note at work and an iPhone for personal use.
Favourite biscuit?
Jaffa Cakes… they are a biscuit aren’t they?!
