Football Blog 1: The kick off
Hello and welcome to the first of what I hope is a long-running series of blogs about football.
Why football I hear you ask? Well, there’s only so much of your working day you can dedicate to the mortgage industry we all know and love so much. Think of this as a little light relief if you will. And why start halfway through the season? It certainly hasn’t stopped Everton and Liverpool, so I’ll try not to let it hold me back too much.
It has certainly been a topsy-turvy season to date. The teams at the top of the Premier League continue to fall over themselves to present each other with golden opportunities to establish something resembling a healthy lead. The fight for fourth place is hotting up, with Everton coming up hard on the outside of a pack including Spurs, Liverpool, Manchester City and Aston Villa. Only four points currently separate West Ham in 13th and Burnley in 19th, so the relegation dogfight could well go down to the wire like last year. Unfortunately, Portsmouth are struggling to find another 50p for the meter and look dead and buried.
Elsewhere, sleeping giants Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United are edging closer to promotion and in League Two, Rochdale are looking to end a hoodoo that has seen them trapped in the basement division for 35 years.
As the season draws to a close and the World Cup looms large, I’ll endeavour to turn this football blog into a weekly pursuit, but it will be nothing without your feedback, so make sure you get involved. Use the comment box below or email me on barney.mccarthy@incisivemedia.com (with “football” in the subject line) to have your say on the topics you want me to tackle, who you’re backing as the silverware is about to be handed out and any other terrace titbits.
