Yorkshire won the best building society lender award, alongside best short-term fixed rate provider and best provider of first-time buyer mortgages.

HSBC snapped up best bank lender and best tracker rate provider, with its subsidiary First Direct getting highly commended for best remortgage and best tracker rate provider.

The awards flag up the best products, services and innovation over the last 12 months, with Abbey for Intermediaries winning the best service award.

Other winners include Co-operative Financial Services for best longer term fixed rate, ING for best remortgage provider and Woolwich from Barclays for its role as the best offset and current account mortgage provider.

The best online lender accolade went to NatWest for Intermediaries and Assurant won best MPPI provider and Barclays from Woolwich received an award for innovation for its Great Escape promotion, encouraging borrowers to remortgage away to a better rate deal.
