More than half of commercial mortgage brokers reported an increase in completed deals in the past quarter, according to a Shawbrook Bank survey.

While brokers overwhelmingly expressed confidence in the economy, the poll found brokers’ clients were less upbeat. Roughly 70% of brokers said their clients were pessimistic about the chances of borrowing from high street banks.

Clients were more positive about their chances of borrowing from specialist lenders. However, only a fifth of brokers felt the client fully understood the role they had to play in commercial mortgage deals.

Shawbrook Bank commercial mortgages sales and marketing director Karen Bennett said brokers were the first to feel changes in the market: “It’s encouraging to see brokers’ confidence in the economy steadily growing.

“As our distribution is through brokers alone we’ll continue to bang the drum to ensure clients are aware of the huge value brokers play in sourcing the full range of lending options available to them.”
