Specialist lender StreamBank has appointed Barry Carter as its new CEO, effective from 14 December 2026.

He will succeed Mike Kirsopp, who is retiring after leading the lender for just under three years. StreamBank said Kirsopp had overseen a period of significant growth and helped establish the business as a leading specialist property finance lender.

Carter joins StreamBank from Hinckley & Rugby Building Society, where he currently serves as chief executive. He brings more than 25 years of experience in banking and financial services, with a background spanning operations, business transformation and strategic growth.

Prior to becoming chief executive of Hinckley & Rugby Building Society, Carter served as chief operating officer, and led its modernisation and development programme.

Announcing the appointment, StreamBank chairperson Nick Treble said Carter’s experience of leading financial services firms through growth and transformation made him well-placed to lead the lender’s next phase of development.

He added that the business had ambitious plans for the future and said Carter’s leadership would be instrumental in delivering them.

Treble also paid tribute to outgoing chief executive Kirsopp, describing his contribution to the lender over the past few years as pivotal.

He said: “Mike has played a pivotal role in establishing StreamBank as one of the UK’s leading specialist property finance lenders, building a business with an exceptional reputation and a strong platform for future growth.

“I would like to wish Mike a long, happy and well-deserved retirement and thank him for the lasting contribution he has made to the business.”

Commenting on his appointment, Carter (pictured) said he was joining the lender at an “exciting point” in its development.

He said: “In a remarkably short period of time, the business has established itself as a major force in the bridging market, demonstrating what can be achieved with a clear vision, exceptional people and an unwavering commitment to delivering for brokers and customers.”

Looking ahead, Carter said StreamBank was well-positioned to build on its existing growth and expand its presence in current markets, while also exploring opportunities in complementary specialist lending sectors.

He added: “The foundations that have been built are incredibly strong, and I see enormous potential for StreamBank to continue its impressive growth. I look forward to working alongside the talented team to build on the success achieved to date and write the next chapter of the StreamBank story.”
