Consumers could be in line for compensation after the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) declared over 40 previously regulated financial advisory businesses in default, including several mortgage advisers.

Home Finance Select Mortgage Solutions based in North Shields, First Action Finance on Wimpole Street and High Tree Financial Services in Boreham Wood are among the firms listed as in default.

A declaration of default means the FSCS is satisfied a firm is unable to pay claims for compensation made against it.

Mark Oakes, head of communications at FSCS, said: “Our message to anyone who believes that they may be owed money as a result of their dealings with any of these firms is please get in touch, as we may be able to help you.”

The FSCS customer services team number is 0800 678 1100 or 020 7741 4100 or email at enquiries@fscs.org.uk.
