When asked what made some brokers hesitate to take on complex, specialist mortgage cases, Rachel Geddes, strategic lender relationships director at Mortgage Advice Bureau (MAB), said “fear”.
She added: “We hear ‘speciality’, ‘complex’, all these words that don’t fill us with a lot of confidence that it’s going to be an easy journey by any means.”
Geddes suggested brokers “break it [cases] down” and added that specialist cases were only named such because they are “outside the norm”, not because they are “impossible” to work with.
She said when a broker does come across a specialist case they are not used to, they should take the time to see the available options and speak to lenders they have not spoken to before.
Nick Parker, head of networks and clubs at Together, said it had “never been easier” for a broker to find their way to a specialist lender because of how technology had moved on and sourcing had evolved.
