Mortgage affordability has been changeable this year, at times appearing to ease, then getting tougher as mortgage lenders react to volatility in the swap market.
But the need for the need for parental support for many first-time buyers to get on the housing ladder has remained a constant.
During a video debate hosted in partnership with Mortgage Solutions and Family Building Society, business development managers (BDMs) Arif Kara and Neil Cadwallader discussed the challenges and options available to families.
“Unless you’re a very high-earning first-time buyer, you’ll need parental help to buy a home more often than not,” said Kara.
Being able to provide mortgage support, rather than gifting a deposit, is a “new phenomenon”, added Kara, and one that parents needed more education around.
