FCA takes to road to help firms tackle regulation issues
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has launched a year-long series of regional roadshows to help financial advice firms tackle regulation issues.

The programme, Live and Local, is made up of workshops, round tables, and events taking place across 12 regions in the UK, staying for a four-week period in each location.

At each location, the regulator will discuss four topics, one each week. During its first week the FCA will run sessions on advice for firms in investment and home finance sectors. General insurance advisers will be offered a separate seminar on culture and governance.

A surgery programme will be run throughout the second week allowing firms to discuss concerns relating to their own business models in 45-minute slots. Week three will be a round table format of senior FCA staff and industry experts, with the capacity for 25 firms.

The final week for each region will be wrapped up by a chairman’s lunch hosted by John Griffith-Jones (pictured) where around 15 firms will be invited to talk about the issues in their region, emerging risks and hear the chairman’s views on these topics.

Jonathan Davidson, FCA director of supervision, retail and authorisations, said: “We know how much firms value face-to-face contact with the FCA, the success of our Positive Compliance workshops showed that.

“So Live and Local builds on that and takes the FCA out on the road to meet firms on their own ground. The programme gives us the opportunity to hear from firms at first hand and gives them the chance to raise any questions or concerns directly with us.”

Firms can search on the interactive map on the FCA’s website to check when the regulator will be visiting their region and the events available to them.
