He will take a place on both the full and executive boards at the mutual, assuming responsibility for operations, underwriting and claims from March 2019.
Pollard previously worked as a consultant, with clients that included EY, LV and Prudential.
In his most recent role Pollard was responsible for a multi-site operation, encompassing claims and underwriting policies.
Prior to this he worked as chief underwriter at Bupa and head of underwriting, claims and operations at Friends Life.
Andy Chapman, chief executive at The Exeter, said: “Chris joins at a really exciting time for the business and I look forward to welcoming him to our team.
“Chris has a wealth of experience within the protection industry and will play a pivotal role in helping the senior team further shape and grow the company.”
Pollard added that he was delighted to be joining the mutual insurer.
“I am looking forward to working with the team to help continue their hard work, delivering consistent improvements for the industry, advisers and members,” he said.
