Estate agency and solicitors shut down by regulators ‘to protect public’
An estate agency and solicitors business has been shut down by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

Bennett Richmond Solicitors & Estate Agents was based in Consett, County Durham.

A spokesperson for the SRA said that the firm had been closed in order “to protect the public”.

A sign posted in the front window of the business’s premises has urged customers of the legal side of the business to contact Gordons LLP, in Bradford, which is now holding the firm’s files. The sign also confirms that the business was closed by the SRA on 14 June. No further explanation has been given by the SRA.

It is believed that the estate agency side had already ceased trading before the intervention.

In a statement, Gordons LLP said: “Bennett Richmond Solicitors has been closed down by the SRA. This is known as an intervention. We are dealing with the closure for the SRA. All files for ongoing matters handled by Bennett Richmond Solicitors are in our possession.”
