Digital mortgage broker Habito has created a “dedicated protection department” as part of the firm’s “ongoing efforts for growth and expansion”.

The broker has hired three people in its protection department – Rhys Walker, protection advice manager, Kulwinder Chana, protection expert, and Niladri Chakraborty, protection expert – who will spearhead the newly formed team.

Habito has also hired Hannah Thornely and Matt Kingsbury in its engineering department, along with Olivia Harris as a mortgage expert.

Walker, Chana and Chakraborty join from Better.co.uk, formerly Trussle, while Harris joins from Mojo Mortgages.

Walker worked at Better.co.uk for around three years, and before that, he worked at Cornerstone Finance as a protection specialist for nearly three years. Before that, he was a protection specialist at ActiveQuite.com for around three years.

Chana was at Better.co.uk for around two years, and before that, he was an assessment and protection consultant at Censeo Financial for around two years. Prior to that, he held a protection adviser role at Embrace Financial Services for around two years.

Chakraborty worked at Better.co.uk for around three years, and before that worked at Cornerstone Financial for around a year as a senior protection consultant.

Ying Tan (pictured), Habito’s CEO, said: “Having used a third party for protection referrals previously, we felt it was time to bring the expertise in house. We are committed to simplifying the homebuying journey and putting customers first.

“We continue developing exciting technology, and this can only be achieved by continued investment into our talented engineering team. It is a great time to be a Habitonian.”

Walker added: “I am thrilled to join Habito in what is a very exciting phase for the business. I’m thankful for the chance to be part of this amazing company and have the opportunity to shape the protection team from the ground up. It underscores our dedication to helping customers protect what matters most to them.”

On top of the establishment of its protection department, Habito has been adding to its team, recently hiring Lizzie Markham, Teddy Cenaj and Jamie Gardner to lead its newly established specialist team.
