He wrote: “Brokers already have a mortgage switch guarantee with lenders like Halifax who offer a product transfer service and don’t take into account the client’s income or credit score when allowing this switch.

“I’ve just done a £264,000 product transfer from a two-year fixed at 2.14% to 1.74% three months early for a legal solicitor/barrister who went from employed to self-employed in April this year, so a full [direct to consumer] remortgage would be difficult.”
