To mark Black History Month this October, Mortgage Solutions is profiling Black and Black mixed professionals in the sector, focusing on the 2026 theme, 'Honouring Our Communities'.

Meet Mame Loum, commercial underwriter at TAB, who enjoys the varied nature of specialist lending and hopes her dedication to her work is evident.

What is your name and role?

Mame Loum. I am a commercial underwriter at TAB. I specialise in assessing complex financial risk and translating business needs into actionable decisions.

How long have you been in this role?

I joined TAB in March 2026, although I have been in underwriting for years.

Why new-build property investment is appealing to a new generation of landlords

How long have you worked in financial services and what was your first job?

I have been working in financial services since I became a mortgage case manager in 2022.

What made you consider the sector as a career?

I like the fact that no two days are the same in financial services. The commercial mortgage and bridging sectors, in particular, are always moving and changing. And I like being at the centre of transactions that help clients achieve their investment goals – bringing momentum to lending for them is really appealing to me.

How do you try to do good for your community through your work?

I am quite vocal about what I do – just ask work. Members of my community might not know much about property finance, and I share my knowledge when I can.

And what about in your personal life?

I am always looking forward to the next transaction and completion. We try to deliver commercial mortgages at bridging speed, and that adds some excitement to my day-to-day.

What does community mean to you both within and outside of the Black community?

Community means shared ambitions and mindset. It means being present for one another and helping each other move forward.

Who inspires you on a personal and professional level?

I have different sources of inspiration. It’s hard to pick one.

How do you hope to inspire others?

I hope my dedication and ambition are seen. I am more focused on my actions and set standards that way.
