Countrywide and Mortgage Advice Bureau (MAB) are believed to be on the verge of announcing the conclusion of their talks on forming a partnership later today.

Sources close to the deal said that Countrywide is not purchasing MAB, with reports suggesting the deal will result in a joint venture.

Nigel Stockton, financial services director at Countrywide (pictured), has made no secret of the fact the firm is actively acquisitive, having recently purchased the Mortgage Intelligence group.

However, Stockton refused to comment on speculation about a deal with MAB.

Peter Brodnicki, chief executive of MAB, also could not comment.
