Richard Spinks, former chief mortgage officer and programme director at Saffron Building Society, has been appointed director of lending operations at Pepper Homeloans.

Spinks (pictured), who has held operational management roles for several banks and building societies, will be responsible for mortgage processing, credit and systems at the lender which launched its mortgage offering in the UK last year.

The appointment follows shortly after Rob Barnard joined Pepper as sales director from Aldermore, where he was head of intermediary distribution.

Colin Snowdon, who helped launch Aldermore Bank’s mortgage proposition also joined the team last year alongside Jeff Knight, previously of Castle Trust.

Spinks said: “I’m delighted to be joining Colin and his team at Pepper and am looking forward to helping them build the Pepper brand within the intermediary mortgage market. This is an exciting time for specialist lenders and I have no doubt you’ll be hearing a lot more about Pepper in the future.”

Pepper launched its UK mortgage range in June last year, which includes residential and buy-to-let deals for borrowers who may be experiencing difficulties obtaining a mortgage from a mainstream lender. Its proposition is intermediary-only and applications are assessed by an underwriter on an individual basis.
