The New Homes Accelerator was established last year to bring forward housebuilding at a faster pace by cutting through barriers to rapid development.
Tactics for speeding up the planning process include providing local areas with additional planning capacity and removing regulatory hurdles.
The team is now gearing up to tackle specific problems on six new sites including Comeytrowe – also known as Orchard Grove – in Somerset, Wisley Airfield in Guildford, North Leigh Park in Wigan and Hampden Fields in Aylesbury, alongside two further sites confirmed in London, at Billet Road and High Road West.
Together, targeted support through the accelerator will expedite the delivery of over 12,000 homes, with at least 25% affordable housing across all sites.
The intervention forms part of the government’s wider reforms to tackle the country’s housing crisis and deliver one-and-a-half million homes.

Since it was launched in August 2024, the programme has focused on removing the planning and regulatory bottlenecks.
Angela Rayner, deputy Prime Minister and Housing Secretary, said: “We’ve rolled up our sleeves and are breaking down the barriers [that] stop us from building the houses to buy and rent that families and young people need, helping to speed up the delivery of tens of thousands of new homes already.”
